Let’s start with the women, highlighted by five games with ranked teams matching up.
Top-ranked Wisconsin dominated Boston College 7-1, with Casey O’Brien and Laila Edwards each scoring two goals. Second-ranked Minnesota edged Boston University 1-0 thanks to Abbey Murphy’s power-play goal with just 1:40 left after a major penalty on BU.
#3 Minnesota-Duluth rallied with two third-period goals to beat #7 Colgate 3-2, with Clara van Wieren netting the game-winner.
In overtime, #4 Ohio State fended off #8 St. Lawrence 3-2, with Jenna Buglioni scoring just seven seconds into the 3-on-3 OT. #5 Clarkson pulled away from Vermont, scoring four straight goals in a 6-2 win. #9 UConn came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat #12 Penn State 3-2, with Brooke Campbell sealing the win late.
#13 Northeastern topped #10 Quinnipiac 4-2, with Skylar Irving and Eloise Caron each contributing a goal and two assists.
#11 St. Cloud State edged #15 Mercyhurst 2-1, as Emma Gentry scored the game-winner late in the third period.
Elsewhere, New Hampshire blanked Assumption 6-0, Robert Morris shut out Bemidji State 2-0, Minnesota State beat LIU 4-0, St. Thomas cruised past Post 7-0, Union shut out RIT 4-0, Sacred Heart defeated RPI 2-1 in overtime thanks to Savannah Popick’s game-winner, Holy Cross handled St. Anselm 5-1, Providence pounded St. Michael’s 8-0 getting a hat trick from Kiara Kraft, and Syracuse blanked Stonehill 4-0.
Now to the men where we had six games kicking off the regular season and one exhibition.
Fourth-ranked Michigan State edged Lake Superior State 2-1 in overtime, with Daniel Russell scoring the game-winner just 39 seconds into OT.
Visiting Minnesota State pulled off an impressive 5-2 victory over #7 Michigan at Yost, with five different players scoring, including Rhett Pitlick, who netted his first goal in a Minnesota State sweater. #20 Arizona State dominated Air Force 8-1, fueled by a hat trick from Bennett Shimek and an incredible three shorthanded goals. Bowling Green started the Dennis Williams era with a 2-1 win over Mercyhurst, with Jaden Grant and Brody Waters finding the back of the net. UConn topped Colgate 4-2, while Ferris State and Miami ended in a 3-3 tie, with Ferris State taking the shootout 1-0. In exhibition action, Notre Dame handled the USNTDP U-18 squad 5-2.
