Bemidji State men win program's 1,200th game; LIU women forge tie with Sacred Heart in NEWHA - CHS 1-26-25

It’s the #CollegeHockey Scoreboard Show for January 25-26, 2025. Long night on Saturday, some technical difficulties there, so we grouped everything from Saturday and Sunday into this smashup. I would apologize, but this show is free - so I’m not going to. I’m also not going to apologize for a lack of breakdowns or analysis. I’ve told you again and again. It’s just the scores. I don’t need to litter up the college hockey podcast space with more bad takes. I’m not an elite hockey mind - YET.

We’ll start with men’s action on Saturday:

In Hockey East, #1 Boston College edged #8 Boston University 2-0, with Teddy Stiga’s powerplay goal proving decisive before Ryan Leonard’s empty-netter sealed it. BC now leads BU by four points in the standings. #2 Michigan State skated to a 3-3 tie with #4 Minnesota, earning the shootout win to take five out of six points on the weekend and build a five-point lead in the Big Ten. 

In the NCHC, #3 Western Michigan blanked Miami 2-0, led by Alex Bump’s 11th goal of the year and Hampton Slukysnky’s 14-save shutout, moving the Broncos into first place. #5 Denver earned a 2-1 win over Minnesota-Duluth, with Carter King scoring his 13th of the year. #12 UMass Lowell topped #7 Providence 1-0 on a late goal by Pierson Brandon, taking five points on the weekend. 

Reece Laubach’s overtime winner lifted Penn State to a 3-2 win over #9 Ohio State, while #10 Michigan settled for a 4-4 tie with Wisconsin but took the shootout point. 

In the CCHA, #14 Minnesota State rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to score seven straight goals, including two each from Adam Eisele and Kaden Bohlsen, for a 7-2 win over Ferris State. Omaha swept #17 St. Cloud State with a 3-1 win to move into second in the NCHC, while the Huskies dropped their eighth straight conference game. 

#18 New Hampshire defeated Vermont 5-2, with Robert Cronin netting two goals to reach 10 on the year. #19 Colorado College stormed back from a 4-1 deficit to beat #11 Arizona State 5-4 behind two goals from Noah Laba. 

At Connecticut Ice, #13 UConn edged Sacred Heart 1-0 in the championship game, with Filip Sitar scoring the lone goal and Trevor Muszelik stopping 23 shots for the shutout. #15 Quinnipiac handled Yale 6-2 for third place

St. Lawrence upset #20 Clarkson 2-1 in the ECAC. 

 In Atlantic Hockey, Army West Point blanked Robert Morris 2-0, AIC beat Canisius 3-2, Holy Cross topped Air Force 6-3, and Niagara defeated RIT 6-3. 

In the CCHA, Augustana and Bowling Green tied 1-1, with Augie taking the shootout point. St. Thomas beat Bemidji State 3-2, Michigan Tech shut out Northern Michigan 4-0. 

Rounding out the ECAC, Dartmouth rolled past Cornell 6-1 while Harvard beat Colgate 4-1. 

Merrimack edged Northeastern 4-3 in Hockey East. In non-conference play, UMass dominated Alaska 7-3, Princeton beat Bentley 3-1, Notre Dame downed Lindenwood 4-2, and Union defeated RPI 3-2 in overtime.

In Saturday’s women’s action: 
In the WCHA, #1 Wisconsin defeated #11 St. Cloud State 5-2 behind Laila Edwards’ 25th goal of the season and Lacey Eden’s 18th. #2 Ohio State topped Minnesota State 4-1 with four different players scoring, including Joy Dunne’s 17th of the year. 

At Hockey Day Minnesota, Abbey Murphy’s 23rd goal powered #3 Minnesota past Bemidji State 3-1 in an outdoor game at ValleyFair in Shakopee, a picturesque setting for the annual event that moves to Hastings next year. 

In the ECAC, #5 Colgate reclaimed first place with a 4-1 win over Dartmouth, thanks to Emma Pais’ 13th goal of the year, while #6 Cornell stayed just half a point behind with a dominant 6-1 victory over Harvard, led by two goals each from Katie Chan and Lindzi Avar. #9 Clarkson edged #7 St. Lawrence 1-0 on Rhea Hicks’ lone goal to stay fourth in the ECAC. 

#8 Penn State blanked Lindenwood 4-0 as Tessa Janecke, Maddy Christian, and Grace Outwater each scored, pushing the Nittany Lions to their 23rd win, the second-most in program history. 

#10 Quinnipiac and Brown tied 0-0, with Quinnipiac taking the shootout. Julia Pellerin’s overtime goal lifted #12 Boston College past Providence 2-1, keeping BC three points out of first in Hockey East. #13 Princeton defeated Yale 3-0 behind Sarah Paul’s 24th goal, while #14 UConn edged Vermont 1-0 and #15 Northeastern downed Merrimack 4-1. 

Syracuse beat RIT 3-2, Mercyhurst blanked Robert Morris 6-0, Boston University topped Holy Cross 3-0, and Maine edged New Hampshire 4-3. 

In NEWHA action, Saint Anselm defeated Franklin Pierce 6-4, Post shut out Assumption 2-0, Sacred Heart beat LIU 1-0, and Stonehill blanked St. Michael’s 3-0. In non-conference play, Union edged RPI 3-2. 

Moving to Sunday, we had five games across the country, but the only ranked teams in action were on the women’s side, so we’ll start there.

In the WCHA, #1 Wisconsin and #11 St. Cloud State skated to a 2-2 tie, with Wisconsin taking the shootout for the extra point and earning five out of six points on the weekend. In NEWHA action, Ashley Morrow scored twice as LIU defeated Sacred Heart 3-0, moving into a tie with the Pioneers atop the standings. 

To the men where Bemidji State celebrated its 1,200th program win by snapping a five-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory at St. Thomas. According to our man Beaver Territory, they’ve got 414 of those in their Division I era. I was in Bemidji earlier this year for a game - took a picture with some big dude wearing plaid and had some beverages at Bemijdi Brewing. 10/10 would recommend. The Brewery. 

In non-conference men’s play, Princeton edged Bentley 1-0 in overtime, while Brown downed Stonehill 5-2.
